Biography

I graduated from Elon College in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. While teaching horseback riding lessons in Austin, Texas, I decided that teaching was something I enjoyed and wanted to pursue. I received my Post Baccalaureate Teaching Certification from the University of Texas, Austin and have been teaching since 1998.  I have taught a variety of Middle School business courses as well as 4th and 5th grade. I currently live and teach in Charlotte, NC at Jay M. Robinson Middle School, where I am also the FBLA adviser and CTE Department Chair.

In 2012, I incorporated Lead2Feed into my classes when I was looking for activities to enrich my curriculum.  In 2016, I decided to teach Lead4Change (then Lead2Feed) as the curriculum during our enrichment time and through FBLA. Lead4Change provides students with an opportunity to reach out beyond themselves and make a difference. In education today success is measured by testing data.  Lead4Change enables students to realize that success is also measured by actions, determination, and dedication to a goal.  Students find their voice and begin to realize that they can make a difference, but they cannot do it alone. The lessons taught in the Lead4Change curriculum align perfectly with the 21st Century Skills and meet a variety of other educational competencies. Most importantly, students learn that leadership involves people working together, which is something we will need from our future leaders!
