This week we have a team update from the P.A.T.C.H. Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America.
P.A.T.C.H. Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chose to help a community kitchen, called Marcella’s Kitchen, by fundraising and donating bowls to their largest fundraiser, the Empty Bowl Project. FBLA members will secure donations by selling sponsorship tickets to individuals and businesses then purchase the bowls from a local paint-your-own pottery store that works with the Empty Bowl project. The food-safe pottery bowls will be painted as a group project, then after the bowls are fired at the pottery store, they will be used at the Empty Bowl Project of Marshall County fundraiser April 13, 2013. At the event in April, for the ticket price of $15, patrons choose a hand-painted colorful bowl (donated in advance) for a meal, where they can fill the bowl with an assortment of foods donated by local restaurants, eat from that bowl, and then take it home as a reminder of hunger in the world. Each $15 event ticket sold buys a bowl and a meal at the event, which provides a donation to serve about 7 meals at Marcella’s Kitchen. Therefore, FBLA members chose a name, which explains the impact each bowl donation makes at the Empty Bowl Project for Marcella’s Kitchen: “FBLA FOOD FIGHTERS. ONE BOWL…SEVEN FED.” Over $13,000 was raised at the event last year. All proceeds go to Marcella’s Kitchen, which provides free meals to the hungry in the local area.
