The CarolinaEast Foundation’s Journey of Hope received a $500 gift from FBLA students at Tucker Creek Middle School on Wednesday afternoon.
The organization, Future Business Leaders of America, won the money in competition in the Lead4Change Student Leadership Program. It was the only Craven County school group to win, according to advisor Ann Frazier.
Lead4Change is a leadership curriculum that focuses on community service, challenging students to create and implement team projects designed to meet a need in their school.
The Journey of Hope fund provides support to cancer patients and their families.
FBLA parliamentarian Kenan Thornton said he wanted to give the gift to Journey of Hope because his mother has battled cancer.
The check was turned over in a brief ceremony in front of the CarolinaEast Cancer Center.
